The ingredients needed to make Toor Dal Khichdi | Tuvar Dal Khichdi:
- Provide 1 cup Rice
- Provide 1 cup Yellow Lentil / Toor Dal / Tuvar
- Take 4 cups Water – (Dal : Water ratio 1:2)
- Get 1/4 cup Chopped Onions
- You need 1/4 cup Chopped Tomatoes
- Provide 5 tsp Oil
- Provide 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds / Rai
- Get 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds / Jeera
- Provide 2 tsp Peanuts / Groundnuts / Mungfali
- Take 1/4 tsp Asafoetida / Hing
- Use 1/2 tsp Chana Dal / bengal gram
- Provide 3 to 4 nos Slit Green Chillies
- Take 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder / Haldi
- Provide 1/4 tsp Coriander Powder / Dhaniya
- Use 1/2 tsp Garam Masala
- Get 3/4 tsp Salt
- Get 1 tsp Grated Garlic
- You need handful Fresh Coriander
- Provide as required Butter or Ghee for garnishing
Instructions to make Toor Dal Khichdi | Tuvar Dal Khichdi:
- In a heating pan, add 5 tsp of Oil and allow it to heat up nicely.
- Add ½ tsp of Mustard Seeds (Rai), ½ tsp of Cumin Seeds (Jeera), 2 tsp of Groundnut (Mungfali), ¼ tsp of Asafoetida (Hing), ½ tsp of Chana Dal, ¼ cup of chopped Onions, 3 to 4 nos. of slit Green Chillies and sauté for 2 min. on medium flame.
- Then add ¼ cup of chopped Tomatoes and sauté for more 1 min.
- Furthermore, add 1 cup of washed Toor Dal and mix well.
- Then add ¼ tsp of Turmeric Powder (Haldi), ¼ tsp of Coriander Powder (Dhaniya), ½ tsp of Garam Masala and mix well.
- Now add 1 cup of washed Rice, 4 cups of Water, ¾ tsp of Salt, 1 tsp of grated Garlic and give a nice stir.
- Cover the lid and cook on medium flame for 15 – 20 min.
- Lastly add handful of freshly chopped Coriander and mix well.
- Garnish with Butter or Ghee and serve hot with Lemon Pickle.
