The ingredients needed to prepare Sakkarai Pongal:
- You need 1 cup raw rice
- Prepare 1/2 cup moong dal
- Prepare 250 gms jaggery
- Take 1 cup milk
- Provide 5 tbsp ghee
- Use A few cashews & raisins
- Prepare 1 tsp cardamom powder
Instructions to make Sakkarai Pongal:
- Wash the raw rice properly for 3 to 5 times to remove off the starch. Soak it for 1 hour. In a pan roast the moong dal till you get a nice aroma. Now pressure cook the raw rice and moong dal till it gets mushy.
- Next in another vessel add 1 cup water and add jaggery and boil till the jaggery gets dissolved. Strain using a filter to remove the impurities. Now in a vessel under low flame mix the raw rice-dal mixture, milk, cardamom powder and jaggery liquid thoroughly till everything gets combined.
- Fry the raisins and cashews and place it on the mixture. Ready to serve.
