The ingredients needed to make Dal Tadka:
- Get 1 cup arhar dal
- Get 1 medium sized onion
- Provide 2 medium sized tomato
- Use 1-2 green chillies
- Take 1 inch piece of ginger
- Prepare 1 teaspoon black mustard seeds
- Get 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Prepare 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder

- Provide 1.5 teaspoon ghee or oil
- Prepare 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- Use 5-6 cloves garlic
Instructions to make Dal Tadka:
- Wash the Dal 3-4 times and soak them in a warm water for 15-20 minutes. Drain the water and add the Dal to a pressure cooker. Also add 3 cups of Water.
- Add salt and turmeric powder to Dal and stir to mix. Close the lid of pressure cooker and cook till you get 1 whistle.
- Add some ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds when ghee becomes hot. Then add chopped onions to the pan along with finely chopped ginger, garlic and green chillies. Fry till the onion turn golden brown.
- Now add chopped tomatoes and fry till it cooked. Add red chilli powder and garam masala to gravy. Cook for 2 minutes. Add the Dal to prepared onion,tomato masala and mix well.
- Dal tastes best when it served hot along with rice or bread.
