- Rinse the deals and then soak it in sufficient water for about 30 minutes.
- Pressure cook all deals in 2 cups of water with a pinch of haldi, oil and salt for 2 whistles then lower the heat to medium and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Once done mash them with a masher to make it smoother.
- In a wok heat ghee and oil together add cumin seeds, hing, bay leaf and dried red chilli as tempering.
- When cumin seeds start to sputter add cloves, green cardamom and cinnamon.
- Add onion and ginger garlic paste and cook till the rawness goes away.
- Add tomatoes and cook the untill they are mushy.
- Add dry spices and fry well and add slit green chilli.
- Add the boiled deals along with it's water and cook for 4-5 minutes on low flame till everything is incorporated.
- Season with salt and add water only if you want it a little runny.
- Turn off the flame when done and add chopped coriander leaves.
- Prepare the second tempering by heating oil in a small tadka pan add cumin seeds when it crackles add red chillies, garlic. Switch off the heat add red chilli powder and pour it over the dal immediately.
- Drizzle more ghee on top of you want. Add lemon juice and mix well Serve with roti, steamed rice.
